Expectations..

I am writing this post 60mins after by Birthday celebrations are over. And if you had guessed I would post something “senti”, you get full marks.

I began noticing this trend/feeling that occured to me for the past few years. And I am sure that every one of us would have this. You accept it or deny it, but the fact is you begin to expect calls/wishes from some persons, someone you consider very special, someone whom you consider had made an impact on you, someone whom you want to share your everything. And this feeling of expectancy comes from the inner unconscious mind. Your brain begins to pump in that extra blood and your heart beats faster as the moment gets closer. And when the wish gets fulfilled the feeling of ecstasy you get cannot be defined by words.

This year's birthday has been particularly special for me and thanks to that special person for making it happen!!

Rotman NetImpact Leadership Conference 2008

Finally we were done with the Rotman NetImpact Leadership Conference yesterday. For those of you who don't know what NetImpact is- Net Impact is an international nonprofit organization whose mission is to make a positive impact on society by growing and strengthening a community of new leaders who use business to improve the world. I was in the organizing committee leading the external communications for the schools for this year's conference.
This year we had the CEO of Microsoft Canada, Phil Sorgen delivering the Key Note address. Phil threw some important aspects regarding the how CSR has changed over the years-from monetary part to the service part- from donating money to giving services such as computers, windows softwares and access to MSN webpage for advertisements. At the other end was the beneficiary, Tom McAllister, CEO, KidsHelp Phone, an organization which receives large funding from Microsoft. Tom talked about KidsHelp Phone's help to children and how Microsoft's funding has helped them to reach out more children.
On a side note, one thing what I learnt from Phil was how to speak. He was so dynamic and convincing that after hearing his speech, your impression about Microsoft would increase. Hope to be a part of such good events in future also.

What is happening inside your head?

Last week I happened to watch a fantastic presentation by Jill Taylor regarding Human Brain-thanks to TED. TED has become one of my favorite hangout sites. Thanks to our strategy Prof. Anita McGahan, through whom I got introduced into this exciting world of TED.As a Neuroanatomist who suffered explosion of her brain blood vessel, Jill took me into a new world of brains. Through out her 16mins video presentation, I was agape. Never before I knew that our right part of the brain is the one which is responsible for our present actions and the left hemisphere is the one which coordinates the past and future actions. And the right hemisphere is about pictures, left hemisphere is about details. So guys protect your left part of your during exams.

(PS: All the 3 links in this are MUST watch - my personal favorites)
